Many students entering college as freshmen are unprepared for college level courses. The General University Academic Center (GUAC) at Texas Southern University offers a FREE program to help students obtain the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in college level coursework and beyond.
The GUAC Summer Academy at Texas Southern University is an 8 week long program for incoming freshmen designed to:
- Prepare students for college level courses
- Provide academic assistance in preparation for the THEA exam
- Ease the transition from high school to college with various “Getting Ready for College” seminars, including study skills, financial management, managing instructors, etc.
Participants receive interactive, student-centered instruction in Mathematics, Reading, and Writing in preparation for the THEA exam, which is administered twice during the program to participants with acceptable attendance.
Students who successfully complete the program will also receive a $300 book voucher to be used in the fall semester.
Classes will be held Monday through Friday, June 5th through August1 from 8:30am – 3:30pm. The program is available to all students who have been accepted to TSU for the Fall 2008 semester and who have not passed or been exempted from the THEA exam.
This is an ideal opportunity for incoming freshmen to get a jumpstart on their college career!
